Source: The Spruce
Yield: 2 cups
Uses: Spiced pomegranate martini, cardamom lemonade, Turkish coffee
Ingredients:
- 1 C water
- 1/4 whole green cardamom pods
- 1 C sugar
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a small or medium saucepan.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat, cover and continue simmering for approx 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
- Transfer to a container with a sealing lid and store in refrigerator for 3 days. Strain out cardamom pods, keeps about 3 weeks.
Notes
- Clearly, you can use just about any spice, particularly the warming ones, to make a flavored simple syrup. Other good candidates:
- cinnamon (use sticks)
- nutmeg (try whole but maybe try smashing a whole nutmeg and boil the pieces)
- ginger (use fresh, not powdered)
- I wonder if black peppercorns would make a good syrup?
